Young Women Exploring Trades
TBD NOVEMBER 2018
8:30 am - 3:00 pm
The Young Women Exploring Trades conference (YWET) is our annual trades, technology and labour market exploration conference for high school girls.
From its inception in 2000 to 2014 YWET was a one day event for grade 8 girls held at the Yukon College. For the first time in 2015 we partnered with local businesses and organizations to bring 102 high school girls to fourteen different businesses and job sites for hands-on real-world learning. Most of the workshops were instructed by the businesses who donated their shops, employees and time to deliver their own programming. This format was so well received by the students and industry partners alike we decided to continue to deliver the conference this way.
Each fall we invite high school girls from across the territory to come participate in trades and technology workshops delivered by our instructors and industry partners. Priority will still be given to grade 8 girls, but all ages of high school girls are welcome to apply up to a capacity of 120 students. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for girls to find out firsthand what it is like to work in different trades and technology fields and for the businesses and industries right here in the Yukon.
