PROGRAMS, EVENTS & RESOURCES FOR THOSE

Exploring the Trades

Who is exploring the trades for?

YWITT coordinates and/or facilitates a diverse range of programs and events that provide a supportive space for youth, women, and gender-diverse folks to explore possibilities, build confidence, and learn skills in the trades.

Here, you’ll find our introductory programs, workshops, and events for both youth and adults. Discover the skills and opportunities in the trades — so you can feel equipped (and inspired) as you take the first steps toward a rewarding career in the trades.

EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOPS

POWER UP

FOR YOUTH

"Power Up! is a series of skilled trades workshops for young women, non-binary and trans youth ages 13-17. The program usually involves 6 weekly sessions, with the series running in the fall and/or the spring. The sessions typically take place on Mondays 3:30-6pm.

The main purpose of Power Up is to expose youth to careers in various trades and offer them hands-on opportunities to engage with some of the tools/skills practiced in those trades.
The program is often organized as an introductory “trades sampler,” and the sessions include a number of different trades environments (ie, in a program with 6 sessions, each of those sessions may cover a different trade). There is no expectation that participants have any previous experience in any of the trades that are covered, although participants with some experience are certainly welcome.

Admission to the program is free, and attendance is usually capped at 10 participants. Snacks are provided.

FOR YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS

Youth & Women Exploring Trades Conference

SAVE THE DATE: April 17, 2026

Once a year we offer the Youth and Women Exploring Trades conference to give high school girls and non-binary folks throughout the territory a unique opportunity to learn about different trades, build projects, practice skills and explore what careers and training opportunities are available in the Yukon.

We believe that experiential trades opportunities are important for all students. We focus on girls and non-binary students during our conference because we see that girls and non-binary folks have less informal exposure to trades and shop opportunities and often are less likely to engage in mixed-gender trades programs. Over the past 20 years of the conference we have seen the difference YWETT has made in the trades careers of students.
