Youth & Women Exploring Trades Conference

April 17 at Yukonstruct Makespace

April 17 at Yukonstruct Makespace ・

Once a year we offer the Youth and Women Exploring Trades conference to give high school girls and non-binary folks throughout the territory a unique opportunity to learn about different trades, build projects, practice skills and explore what careers and training opportunities are available in the Yukon.

What to expect this year:

The conference this year will be happening at Yukonstruct Makespace, a community workshop in downtown Whitehorse equipped with a wide range of tools that are available to members and other users.

Students will get to participate in three different workshops over the day, learning skills ranging from esthetics to 3D printing to blacksmithing.

We hope that participants will be able to use the day to learn new skills and career possibilities, build cool projects, make new friends, and maybe develop a new hobby or two to take with them into the future!

Conference participation is free. A morning snack and lunch will be provided.

A free fun event for girls and gender-diverse youth ages 13-17 from across the Yukon!

  • Learn about different trades

  • Build projects to take home

  • Practice skills in a safe, supportive space

  • Explore what careers and training opportunities are available in the Yukon

How can our school get involved?

Schools can support their students in attending YWET by

  1. reaching out to coordinator@yukonwitt.org to express interest in being part of it;

  2. booking a school presentation about YWET during the weeks of February 23 and March 2;

  3. helping to distribute conference registration forms to interested students, and collecting the completed forms;

  4. arranging chaperones to attend the conference with the students;

  5. showing up on conference day and having a fun time!

How do I register as a student?

Students can register for YWET in two ways:

  • On paper: paper registration forms will be available through the schools by February 23rd. There will be a staff contact person at the schools collecting the forms.

  • Online: online conference registration will be available at the beginning of March.

    Space for the conference is limited! Students are encouraged to register early to make sure to get a spot.

    The registration deadline is Sunday, March 29, 2026

How can our workplace get involved for future years?

We welcome support from local businesses and organizations! If you would like to get involved in future YWET conferences as a workshop instructor, financial sponsor, donor of materials or another way, you can reach out to coordinator@yukonwitt.org.
