Make your own metal stool while learning how to weld safely with support and guidance from instructor Candice Nekon.
What you’ll do in this 4-hour session:
Gain hands-on experience and practice various welding techniques throughout the workshop.
Learn the basics of wire-fed MIG welding and how to set up and use a MIG welding machine.
Learn about welding basics and safety.
Build your own metal stool.
Location:
Yukon University welding shop. You will receive an email in advance of this workshop that will provide directions.

Candice Nekon is a second year welder and welding support at Yukon University.
The workshop will be supported by Julaine Debogorski of YWITT.
What is MIG Welding?
MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is ideal for those who are learning to weld. It is one of the easiest, most affordable, portable, and versatile techniques.
I’ve never welded before…is this workshop for me?
Yes! This workshop is beginner friendly. If you have limited or no experience with welding, this is a supportive and safe environment to build your skills.
What is Trans Shop Time?
Our Trans Shop Time series of workshops and events are for Two-Spirit, transgender, and gender non-conforming folks who are 19+.
These events support a peer-led space facilitated by trans and allied folks for community to learn, gather, and connect!
Which registration option is for me?
We offer two types of registration to all YWITT workshops:
General Admission: For folks who are of White or European backgrounds. General admission is by donation/
People of Global Majority: For folks of African, Asian, indigenous, Latin American, or mixed-heritage backgrounds. This ticket type is free to reduce barriers to accessing tools, shop and training time.
What do I wear to the workshop?
Tie back long hair.
Leave jewelry at home.
Wear steel toe boots if you have them; if not some toe caps will be provided.
Only wear natural fibres such as cotton, denim, leather, and canvas. Do not wear synthetic fibres, as they are a melting hazard.
