Trans Shop Time: Vehicle Maintenance and Roadside Preparedness
June's T4T Shop Time welcomes allied heavy duty mechanic instructor, Amber Wally, to walk us through some of the basics around vehicle maintenance. She will advise participants on what you should know about whats under your hood, how to find useful information in your user manual, and what tools and supplies to keep on hand to feel more confident on long drives. We will do a tire change, share resources, and give everyone a chance to poke around under their own hoods and ask questions.
Youth & Women Exploring Trades Conference
Once a year we offer the Youth and Women Exploring Trades conference to give high school girls and non-binary folks throughout the territory a unique opportunity to learn about different trades, build projects, practice skills and explore what careers and training opportunities are available in the Yukon.
We believe that experiential trades opportunities are important for all students. We focus on girls and non-binary students during our conference because we see that girls and non-binary folks have less informal exposure to trades and shop opportunities and often are less likely to engage in mixed-gender trades programs. Over the past 20 years of the conference we have seen the difference YWET has made in the trades careers of students.

Pig Slaughter Workshop in West Dawson
How do we deal with food insecurity in the North? Some residents' response to this question is to raise and process their own livestock. Not everyone has the resources to have their animals processed professionally, so learning skills that support self-sufficiency can help Northern residents access local food.
Our instructors, Adonika Jayne and José Youx, started out raising pigs on their West Dawson property with their neighbors. Through a combination of personal experience, research, and guidance from others, they learned to slaughter and process their own animals. Since then, Adonika has completed the Olds College Meat Processing program in Alberta, and is putting her skills to work supporting the local agricultural industry and sharing her skills with community members.
This workshop can support 6 adult participants over the age of 18.
2 tickets will be held for People of Global Majority (a collective term referring to people who are Black, Brown, Asian, Bi-racial, Indigenous, for info about this term, click here) under promo code: FIRSTPICK
This is a full day workshop, for women and gender diverse folks, who have little to no experience with pig slaughter. Adonika and José will walk us through the process of slaughtering pigs in an off-grid setting, and provide opportunities for participants to be as hands-on as they are comfortable with.
Two pigs will be processed during the workshop, the facilitators will demonstrate the techniques on the first and allow participants to participate on the second.
If the program is full, be sure to put your name on the waitlist, so we can contact you if space becomes available.
